Overview
The Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (now the Saudi Central Bank) issued two commemorative banknotes marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, dated 05/10/1419H, corresponding to 23/01/1999. In recognition of the significance of this historic occasion, new banknotes were issued: the 200 riyals and 20 riyals denominations. Both banknotes feature the official emblem of the centenary celebration and circulate alongside all current banknotes as an official currency. These commemorative issues are distinguished by a range of advanced technical specifications and security features developed in accordance with the latest standards in banknote printing.
On 07/04/1442H, corresponding to 22/11/2020, the 20 riyals banknote was issued as an official commemorative banknote, on the occasion of Saudi Arabia’s presidency of the G20, and the hosting of the Leaders’ Summit in Riyadh.
